Hey guys, Kayl here. I figure that I might as well introduce myself before I start going into anything else. I'm sixteen, being the youngest admin on our lovely OVERDRIVE! as well as being admin on Overdrive I'm an avid role-player and I'm constantly looking for ways to improve myself and my writing skills, sorry if I've already made a ton of mistakes and it's bothering you.Since the beginning of Overdrive, I've been trying to think of something that I could write about that's RP related on this blog, I couldn't think of anything until this very afternoon. I was sitting happily at my computer desk typing up an application for a character of mine named Cailyn, when I decided that I needed music. Music often gives me inspiration, if you haven't tried listening to music while writing a thread of app, you should try it at least once. Anyways, I pulled up my iTunes, that's when my problems started. You see, I have a rather old, shitty computer and it has quite a few problems with it. Such as, when you have too many programs opened up it often likes to close them all, including the application that I had been working so hard on. I had thought that I had previously learned the lesson, "save, save, save" in all of the computer classes that I have taken, but apparently it just hadn't gotten through to me. Unfortunately, I still have to re-do my application. I hope this reminds everyone, and myself, that saving things like applications and threads when they're in the making is actually a good idea. Maybe someday I'll get it through my thick skull, as for now, I should probably get back to working on that app before I forget all of the information that I had in it. - Kayl <333 Sunday, July 12, 2009, 12:25 PM
a new feature and some rambling
so, we got off to a rough start. okay, a really rough start. i'll admit, drama isn't fun, and even i wanted to jump ship a little bit. but you know what? we're better than ever now, and i couldn't be more proud to be a part of the overdrive staff. we sincerely apologize for all of the nonsense, and we hope that you all know that we're not just evil bitches who steal everything. so we're the new and improved overdrive, and we hope that you can see that. the forum is organized in a different way, and it should be easier for newer rpers to get everything that they need. as hally talked about in our last post, our goal is for people to be better rpers, and that's not all about resources. it's not all about skins, or graphics, or pretty templates. sure, those things are important, but it's the members and the characters that make a site great. we want all sites to be fantastic, and we want the members here at overdrive to feel as though they're improving. what am i most excited about with this site? the reconnection search. we've all had awesome people that we've rped with that we lost touch with, and kind of miss, right? well the reconnection search offers the opportunity to try and find that person. we can't promise that it'll work, but i think it's really interesting, and it's something that could be something great. so we really hope that you use that, i'm excited to see how it'll work.but you know what? this blog is going to include random shit, and that starts now. it's not all about rping, because that gets boring after a while, right? so i'm watching bring it on right now, and i forgot how much i love this movie. being a cheerleader, i pretty much hate cheerleading movies because they're ridiculous and incorrect and just.. stupid. but bring it on is a new kind of awesome. yes, it's seriously dramatized, and yes, cheerleaders are nicer people than they're made out to seem like in this movie, but it's so good. it's just a movie that makes me want to throw on my cheerleading uniform and jump around. i won't, cause that's kinda lame and dorky, but i seriously want to. the one thing that always bugged me about this movie though is that kristen dunst's name in the movie is torrence. first of all.. weird name. and secondly, their squad name is the torros. that's weird, that her name pretty much matches. i dunno, i've always just found that strange, and kind of unnecessary. they couldn't have named her something prettier? or different from the squad? or maybe that was the point. i'm not sure. today's a total movie day though, i'm heading off to see bruno later with a few of my girlfriends, and i'm pretty excited about that. i hated borat. like.. hated it. but bruno looks pretty funny from what i've seen so far. so fingers crossed that it's good. hmm. what else can i talk about? i'll do a post later about the shit that's been going on with me lately, but my newest way to self soothe? landyard. remember landyard? that stuff was the shit. i found like all of my old stuff, and that's what i've been doing since my muse has kind of just dissapeared, and it's a good thing to do that doesn't require any effort or brain power. i think i've made like ten of them in the past few days. i like the one i'm doing now, it's pink and sparkly and uses ten strings. i'm super lame, right? oh, and my newest obsession? columbine, by dave cullen. seriously, it's easily one of the greatest books that i've ever read. like to the point that i don't even know what to do with myself. it's a character study of the two killers, eric and dylan, and it's so incredibly interesting. it's sad as hell, and it's almost painful to read, but it's interesting to read the inside point of view that paints them as more than just the columbine killers. it's creepy as hell, but they have journals of both of the boys, fbi recordings, and hundreds of different pieces of information that gives reasoning to the madness. it doesn't excuse what happen, but it's an unbiased opinion that makes you pissed off at how much crap that was out there, the majority of it untrue. i'm seriously having a hard time putting it down. it's just.. fantastic. i'd recommend it to anyone that likes shows like criminal minds, and are interested in the psychological aspects of various events and people. it's hard to read, but it's worth it. okay, i have to go, sorry this post is just a random ramble of the past day of my life lol, but my next posts will make more sense, and have more purpose, i promise. i'll talk to ya'll soon. xoxo, willow <33 Friday, July 10, 2009, 8:04 PM
Opening Day
So with OVERDRIVE finally being open I figured I would get this show on the road by writing our first ever blog entry by describing to you what exactly OVERDRIVE is all about. I'll start by saying that I'm Hally, one of the admins at the lovely place. Our main goal is to improve our members roleplaying skills. Now we are not promising to make them become full fledged authors and write a series of novels or anything like that. No, I believe we would be getting a bit ahead of ourselves by doing that. But we want to help them with their character development skills. We are not only for the beginner roleplayers, we are for the advanced roleplayers as well. We offer the chance to improve your skills as a roleplayer and even meet some awesome new people while doing it.We offer roleplay buddy requests, which personally I think is a pretty cool idea. Sure, you've all heard of character requests where someone comes up with a plot and wants someone to fill the open characters that are needed for it, but sometimes you want to build a plot up with someone else, by bouncing ideas off one another or whatever. Finding someone who likes the same ships as you or the same types of rp boards. Anything goes basically. We are all about not only being for roleplaying but also the social aspect that we all know is one of the best parts of roleplaying. How often have you wanted to get to know the person behind the character? Now you might ask what this blog is all about really. Well it's basically just a fun place for the staff of OVERDRIVE to keep our members up to date on all the latest trends as well as tips and tricks of roleplaying. Now we're not going to be all about roleplaying either, maybe we just want to talk music or movies or books. Pretty much whatever is on our minds that we think you guys ought to know about. All of the staff at OVERDRIVE are really excited to see how our baby grows. We love it to death and we hope that you will too! It's going to be a fun ride and I hope that you will take it with us. Now we want you're opinions, what do you think of this idea? How can we make it better? What would you like to see? We want to know what our members think of OVERDRIVE's blog. Let us know. Go here to let us know <3 -Hally |
